Mentor Program

The Maine Osteopathic Association (MOA) and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM) Alumni Association have created a mentoring program for students, interns and residents in Maine.

Our goal

To match students, interns and residents with practicing osteopathic physicians.

Why

  • To support osteopathic medical students, interns and residents through the difficult and demanding process of becoming a physician.
  • To assist osteopathic medical students, interns and residents learn more in-depth about the osteopathic profession, variety of specialties, practice settings, business of medicine, etc.

The students at UNECOM and at hospitals, could greatly benefit by having a source of information and support outside of their official academic settings. The unique experience as an osteopathic physician is invaluable and would serve those students, interns and residents well in the midst of their academic/clinical process.

‘Mentors are guides. They lead us along with journey of our lives. We trust them because they have been there before. They embody our hopes, cast light on the way ahead, interpret arcane signs; warn us of lurking dangers and point out unexpected delights along the way.’

The relationship that a mentor establishes with the student, intern and/or resident is on an individual basis. Telephone, email and face-to-face interaction can all occur. The frequency of ‘meetings’ is on an individual basis as well.

The Mentoring Program matches students, interns and residents and mentors by personal interest, as well as life experiences. There are opportunities for mentoring no matter where you are located in the state of Maine.
To become involved in the mentor program, all you have to do is complete and return the appropriate form.
